yeah i'm still not sure who the fuck exactly came up with the brilliant idea of growing almonds in california which is directly adjacent to two deserts and which contains some of the driest land in our whole country, or why californians didn't put a stop to it before it became what it is now, but i'm sure there's some wonderful explanation for both of those which will be used to ignore the fuck out of it until california explodes or something

california is not a naturally dry area and is well-irrigated

the midwest used to be a desert

their good irrigation is about 80% of why they have a year of water left right now

irrigation uses >40% of their water

this has been going on for a while

I've had a love hate relationship with the rainy weather in Florida. I love it cause I find it relaxing but it attracts mosquitoes which can be annoying when you're trying to hang out with neighbors on the driveway and such.

this year is going to be a fun one for california because the wet season basically ends this month and as it stands right now it would take about a hurricane's worth of rain over the next six months to end the ongoing drought

also it's going to be warmer than usual

parts of california are literally sinking by a foot a year because the water table has dropped by up to 80 feet in places
